  1. Don’t limit screwdrivers to #2 flat and Phillips. A big flat blade is invaluable for prying, scraping as well as driving screws.
    Zipties are great if you aren’t comfortable with tools, but safety wire is so much more versatile and stronger.
    A multimeter is a mistake for a someone just starting out. Buying equipment, without the knowledge to use it, is a waste of money.
    Make sure your tape measure is at least 15′ , 20′ is better. Having to measure something in stages frustrating at best and likely to be result in mistakes.
    Scrapers are great, but a painters multi-tool can do a lot more for just a few extra dollars.
    A plunger will only get you so far. Get a drain snake and some heavy rubber gloves will save you a lot of money against the price of service call from a rooter truck.
    Pipe wrench? Vise grips? A scratch awl? A crow bar?
