Probably the best to do is start small and work your way up to the bigger stuff, been a wood worker off and on for the past two decades and been out of the hobby or the profession for a few years now other than a occasional project here and there.I already have quite few of the main tools like both the miter an circular saws, drills and etc but want to add a router and a drill press plus a pocket hole jig too, I plan on going a little deeper into woodworking,as I’m considering building a work bench and then a miter saw station eventually.I have some background in wood working but the two beginners videos were still helpful to figure out what the next tool to add to my growing arsenal,thanks..👍
Grrrrrreat consultation! Thank you good Sir!!!
Great video! Would be a little more helpful if you addressed the 10" vs 12" miter saw question.
Do a review on Hart tools!
hello yinz. Are you from Pittsburgh by chance? i am and thats a local thing
I know this video is three years old so i don’t know if you will read this comment. it’s reference to your drill press. im envious by the way, have you ever used it as a drum sander? it’s something i learned in shop class in high school
i’d put a rip saw first, and a rasp.
If I walked into a garage and saw all of these power tools aid assume the person is pretty advanced and active in the hobby. This list is way beyond beginner, but something a beginner might think they need.
A beginner might be able to make a lot of nice looking things with all these tools, but it doesn’t necessarily improve their skill.
An advanced wood worker doesn’t need so much.
I think a better list would be drill + circular saw + sander + good hand saws + accessories (saw horses, clamps, jigs, glues, finishes/brushes, screws/dowels, etc).
Hand saws are really underrated and a I’ve used mine a few times for simple projects, just something kind of zen about using manual tools. Also when I had shop class as a kid we had to do everything with non power tools first, and graduate to the power tools. Honestly I’d recommend beginners start with manual hand saw and boards.
Also, table saws are really dangerous and I wouldn’t recommend for beginners.
Drill, drills holes. Impact driver, drives screws.
Before u start with the tools get yourself some ear and eye pro aswell as a half face respirator. Those ffp2 and ffp3 won’t cut it…
when all you have is a hand saw drill and some nails no money no varnish no glue no clamps
Just found this channel . Love the content. Tina? By the way, what part of Pittsburgh you from?
I love your videos
Just scored a Craftsman 10” compound mitre saw for $50 on FB. Lady is selling it and its only been used 3-4 times
I geberally disagree. First figure out what projects you will be doing. Then get the tools. Also Bessey is overpriced. Look into Piher for clamps. Get a Miter saw early. It is ssoooo much faster than a circular hand saw.
Just noticed the small flag….
"Jesus christ stop leaning on the miter saw, that’s a precision instrument!"
Me, the hobbyist woodworker.
Thanks for sharing. You mentioned dust collection as super important but no dust collecting tools on your list.
It took me entirely too many videos to realize you were saying Yinz, clearly I’ve been in Western PA too long.
Drill driver bs hammer drill
My main battery platform is the Makita 18v LXT, I’ve got the ryobi airstrike 16g nailer and a few older Makita Ni Cad tools, all of which I’ve bought adapters for so I can use the LXT batteries on them. I also recently bought the Bosch 12v multi head drill kit, and I was surprised by the power. I have since bought the 12v jigsaw.
Great video, I realize it’s intended to be woodworking specific. But the one change I would probably make is to put the miter saw in the “top 5” it’s probably not top 5 specifically for finish carpentry. but because like the drill set, it’s usefulness will extend far beyond fine carpentry projects
Sorry I have a question: What do you mean by parallel not flat?
I’m getting a planer. Any recommendations?
My guys where are your craftsmen tools
What do you think about getting a band saw instead of table saw? I don’t yet have any experience with either, but from my research so far i understand that i can do anything with band saw that i can do with table saw and more – make flat cuts of raw uneven wood.
This top 10 list for "beginners" just kinda looks like 10 woodworking tools.
In your video tiled what 5 tools a beginner should NOT buy is a planner and now your saying you should get one 😂
Is the joiner you have also a thicknesser in the underside? I ask because many of the ones in that configuration are. I was looking at getting one to take up less space. The inconvenience of removing or folding a table away doesn’t bother.
Knew i recognized your name, ha
Great list!
KREG pocket hole jig is a great and cheap addition also. Very useful.
Thank you 👊🏾👍🏾
Not specific just to you, but what’s w/ all the ‘stupid faces’ that people put on their thumbnail pics of their videos?
Maybe I’m just old and grumpy, but it’s so annoying!
Just read your t-shirt…must be a generational thing.
Who is Pakistani trying to learning about Carpentry…
So funny, I came from your regret buying video and that Dewalt 12 inch planer was on the list of things you regret… So since that’s newer I guess the regret is the final answer.
Three different types of saws?
Im not sure how it happened but Ive gone in reverse, I have a drill press, router, and mitre saw. I just kept borrowing the typical stuff, so I only ever bought the more specific tools. I am tired of using my dads cheap table saw, so probably going to get that next.
Awesome list but this is not a beginner’s list.
Clamps are great to buy second hand.
Being so pro and labeling a drill press as “beginner” yeah I think you need to reevaluate the list.
So the planer doesnt make it flat? Im confused…
Yinz are in PA, ain’t ya? Lol
As a novice I’m really interested by your pocket holes comment. Can you do a video showing when to use and not to and why?
Imagine what a expert tool list must be. Spoiler: plasma saw, laser drill, adamantium chisels and so on 😂😂😂😂😂
The real #1 is to get a 3000 square foot shop
4 videos in and I hit that subscribe button!
Thank you for your videos 👍
May join u sir for improve my woodworking .
12:15 this man has apparently not been to Menards or Home Depot if he thinks we can come home with flat lumber.
